Spring 2025
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Angel Vargas, begins his seminar by explaining what family is and that family dynamics involve close connections, intimate experiences and challenges.
He explains that empathy, acceptance and genuineness are necessary elements to help families grow together, and achievable by connecting with family members through verbal and non-verbal communication, listening, and nurturing.
Connections
There are three types of connections that play important roles in strengthening families:
Emotional connections helps a family convey empathy, trust, being present, intentionality, and encourages open communication and shared experiences
Intellectual connections helps family members convey ideas, themes of interest and areas of learning
Spiritual connections provide family members to share their faith, sense of meaning, and purpose
Communication
Verbal, non-verbal and listening are factors for growing strong families. Being aware of the tone of your voice, your body language, and assertiveness when presented can help you improve receptivity of what your saying by family members.
Additionally, practicing regular, attentive and active listening skills will help you improve what you're saying and how you say to family members.
Nurturing
Angel then emphasizes that it's important to express love in a meaningful way by knowing The Five Love Languages - yours and theirs.
