Practicing Patient Parenting

Spring 2025

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Romelia Gomez, shares when parents and caregivers practice positive parenting they set their children up for success that leads to happy and healthy adults, through:

  • Showing your children love, warmth and kindness

  • Guiding your children to act the way you want by encouraging and teaching them

  • Helping your children thrive by saying "You are loved, you are good, you matter"

Ingredients for a happy and healthy family include love, commitment, responsibility, patience and unity.  It also includes discipline with love, respect, purpose, and patience.

So how do we practice patience? First, patience is the ability to accept delay, suffering, or annoyance with out complaining or becoming angry (Cambridge Dictionary).  Secondly, patience is different for each individual shaped by your stress level, temperament, personality and triggers.

Romelia takes participants through several exercises to help you assess your stress level, where your anger, frustration or irritability is coming from that will help lead you to practice patience and become a better parent and caregiver.
